Egret's night outEgret sighed as she turned to the last page in her book. She hated reading the last page. The last pages were an ending and every time she finished a book she felt the imaginary world dissolve around her. Her one protection from the harsh realities of the real world gone.Egret's night out by 8eyond-the-GRave
Egret perched delicately on the railing that ran along the roof of the orphanage, her bare feet finding purchase on the thin railing easily, her new crimson coat, a gift from Elizabeth, hung down behind her occasionally flaring up in the wind. Her golden bangs covered eyes that could easily be compared to burning turquoise, while the wind had removed her hat a while causing her hair to twist and swirl as if it hand a mind of its own. Garbed in a simple white dress, Egret made no attempt to cover herself as the wind threatened to expose her knickers.
She was for the entire world a red gargoyle.
In her hands rested an old dog-eared paper back, she had forgotten the title years ago when the front cover fell off but it ne
the maidThe orphanage of Novell was much grandeur place then even the countess palace. It was located on a hill overlooking the market place with a most breathtaking view of the whole city as well as the surrounding landscape. The countess, an orphan herself, made sure that no child was left wanting.the maid by 8eyond-the-GRave
I had first heard of the place when I was looking for a job at the local offices, a most plumb offer for a maid at the orphanage was being overlooked by everyone. There were scant few applications in the folder and I knew my chances at getting the position were high in comparison to the others applying. So, I picked up the thick packet that the application consisted of and began to look it over. Strange, I thought, how thorough they seemed to be.
Miss are you sure you want to apply for the job? the warrant officer asked.
I heard the orphanage is haunted something fierce and not only that, the countess is a loon.
Not true, the captain f
Elizabeth's dreamIt wasnt often that Egret visited the castles cavernous dungeons.Elizabeth's dream by 8eyond-the-GRave
It was, after all, the vampires domain. A miniature realm of darkness where Elizabeth kept to herself, slept in peace, away from the noisy world of humans.
As Egret descended the stone steps, she mused briefly that it was almost like a bat cave.
As this hour, it was very likely that the annoying vampire was asleep, and she was correct in assuming so. She ventured deeper into the dungeons, her shoes echoing upon the stones. Elizabeth came into view soon enough. Instead of her coffin, she had fallen asleep upon her throne. The shadows surrounding her swirled eerily, as if disturbed by her dreams. The table next to her held a half-empty bottle of red wine and an empty glass. This was how she passed her time.
Egret drew nearer.
She had wished to discuss a recent disturbance with the smug countess. But as she looked closer at the slumbering form, she kept her peace.

what do you fear? The orphanage of Novell was pleasant enough at first. She had a room in the west wing, away from the noise, the noise that comes with living humans. Her father, Gods rest his soul, always used to say Humans are so loud that it would be impossible to miss them in the dark. And the people seem nice enough; everyone bows and is polite. But Egret couldnt help but notice a mild sense of neglect, as if she were a stray dog or an uninvited guest. She had thought for a time that it was due to a fact that she was nobility, but when Egret looked into their eyes, really looked, she saw a vast coldness within them.what do you fear? by 8eyond-the-GRave
The heart can be and is a much colder place, my dear.
Egret sat up from her all too comfortable bed. She knew that voice; it was the voice she thought words in. But this one was different, it hinted of nobility, strength and it held a certain calm, a calm which one always finds before the proverbial storm, a womans voice.
Egret scanned the gloom of her room, once
